When managing and deploying a large edge initiative, the coordination and configuration of all the components becomes a daunting task. To save time and effort and truly make SC//Platform ‘plug and play’ at distributed sites, the Kitting and Staging Service plays a critical role in easing your workload.
It’s not just coordinating thousands of components to ship to hundreds of locations, but how your centrally managed IT department can effectively bring those systems online quickly and with the least amount of effort. System integration, correctly configured for each site, with preloaded base VMs for application usage at the remote edge site, is necessary for customers.
The Kitting and Staging Service is fully managed by a dedicated project manager and engineer to guide you through the decision-making process on systems’ preparation for each site and create a scheduled plan. Take ease of deployment to a new level. Even if the site has no technical resources available, the service can schedule field engineers to unpack and install the equipment, configure local networking, and physically rack nodes, UPS, and switches, so that the nodes can zero-touch provision—allowing your centralized IT group to quickly have access to validated systems the same day equipment arrives.
With this service, Scale Computing takes on the project management work to coordinate equipment, ensure configuration consistency, shipping with the third party based on the project plan, and onsite deployment. This allows you to purchase all services directly through Scale Computing and not have to contract with the third-party vendors themselves - allowing for a seamless solution.
Common Scenarios
Scenario 1: Standard installation of a switch and an SNS (one node cluster). Switch and cluster configuration, no VMs.
Scenario 2: Advanced installation of a switch and an SNS (one node cluster) with customer-supplied VMs (up to four). Switch and cluster configuration, the customer provides up to four VM ISOs to be loaded and IP configured.
Scenario 3: Standard installation of two switches and a 3-node cluster. Switch and cluster configuration, no VMs.
Scenario 4: Advanced installation of two switches and a 3-node cluster with customer-supplied VMs (up to 4). Switch and cluster configuration, the customer provides up to four VM ISOs to be loaded and IP configured.
